How to Make Time for Yourself During the Holidays

005 – How to Make Time for Yourself During the Holidays

The Holiday season is literally the most wonderful time of the year. But it can also be a very stressful time of the year if we aren’t careful. The best way to ensure that you’re stress-free is by first taking care of yourself.

This week, I’m sharing different ways to make your Holiday season the best Holiday season yet. Whether it’s taking care of your schedule, your budget, or your environment, it’s best to make sure you take care of yourself in the process. That is why I am showing you how to make time for yourself during the holidays!

Topics Discussed:
  • How to take care of your schedule
  • How to take care of your budget
  • How to take care of your environment

So, here are a few ways on how to make time for yourself during the holidays!

Taking Care of Your Schedule

If there is one thing I want you to know is that you don’t have to say yes and go to every event invited to you. It’s okay if you don’t make every Holiday party, your friends, family, and colleagues, etc., will understand if you have to politely decline.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to take time to decompress physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and even financially. Sometimes this looks like setting aside time to do something you love and enjoy. Or sometimes this simply looks like taking a day off.

Regardless of how you decompress, it’s essential to your well-being during this busy time of the year. And the best part? You are in complete control of your schedule!

Taking Care of Your Budget

Don’t go into debt over things that won’t matter in a year. I mean, if you can help it, don’t get into debt at all. But seriously, don’t rack up a credit card for something that won’t matter in six months!

Something I’m trying to incorporate all of my gift-giving year-round is either homemade, local, or specifically requested. For example, this year, my mom asked for candles for Christmas. It just so happens that I love making candles and enjoy the process. Not only is it therapeutic for me but it’s fun to handcraft something that I know my mom will love.

Otherwise, if I can’t make it myself, I try to support local, small businesses. I understand the love and care that goes into supporting families and the local community so anytime I am able, I help support other people’s endeavors.

You don’t have to go crazy on the gifts. I get it, I really do. You want the best for your loved ones, as do I. But do you want to know the most special gift that you can give your loved ones? Your time. Investing in the relationships you have cultivated over time is the best gift you can give!

Taking Care of Your Environment

I feel like this is an important one to take note of because the practice can have two different perspectives.

One is taking care of your physical environment. Personally, I like to have balance in my life. I’m not an extremist by any means so when I say balance, I’m talking about healthy meals and indulging on the Holiday treats. I’m not one to preach about maintaining a fixed diet regardless of the time of year. However, I do believe in balance. Sure, eat smaller portions if that’s the diet you have maintained all year. But by all means, enjoy the baked pies and Christmas cookies! So whether your physical environment includes your diet, physical activity, sleep, water intake, etc, make sure you’re taking care of your body.

The other side to this is taking care of your mental health and mindset. Make sure that you are protecting yourself mentally and emotionally. It’s okay if things or people don’t resonate with you. It’s not rude to politely decline topics that you don’t feel comfortable talking about. You should never feel like you have to explain yourself if you don’t feel at ease with other people’s opinions of you. This is your life and you shouldn’t have to put up with negativity even if it is the Holiday season!

So, by sharing these tips on how to make time for yourself during the holidays, I hope that you have the best Holiday season, yet.
