Give it your all, even if no one is watching.
This can be one of the hardest, most challenging things you will have to do in your life. I mean, I don’t think there has ever been a day where I haven’t thought to myself either, “Am I doing anything with my life that actually matters?”, “Do I actually have a purpose”, or “Am I actually leaving an impact on anyone?”.
The answer is always yes, yes I am leaving an impact. Yes, the work I am pursuing is purpose driven. However, self-doubt and fear like to trickle in. Ever have a moment of triumph over something you have worked so fervently on and are in awe of your work but you immediately get bogged down with fear of failing or fear of someone not appreciating your work or simply “not understanding you”? Yeah?
Well, the good news is that you’re normal!
BUT the even better news is that giving it your all matters even if no one is watching, ESPECIALLY if no one is watching. What if all of the influential people in our lives, all of the greatest activists, leaders, entrepreneurs, creatives, innovatives, and nonprofit starters only achieved great success when someone was watching? So much of our literature, creations, and inspirations wouldn’t have achieved half of their success if they had given up early or only worked when they had an audience?
I honestly believe that transparency is how we get out of those funky thoughts and into our true calling.
I get it. Life can be hard and feel meaningless but don’t give up! Fuel those emotions and the passion to start something great. I understand the fear of creating something into existence just to watch it fail, miserably at that. I have started so many blog posts, events, groups, etc and while I never finished most of them or was never able to make something happen, some of the most impactful and inspiring things came out of the heartbreak.
No matter what they tell you, success stories rarely ever happen overnight.
Failure can either become one of our biggest setbacks or one of our greatest outcomes. The best part is? We have the complete freedom to decide how failure can impact us.
Fight for something. Stand up for something. Give it your all and go forth. Conquer your greatest fears and self-doubts. Look at your failures in the face and say, “Let’s work together and figure out how to make something great come from this”. Giving it your all sometimes looks like pouring your blood, sweat, and tears into something that just barely reaches the surface level. Sometimes when you give it your all, nobody is there to see your triumph. But does that mean you weren’t successful? Of course not. When you give it your all, ESPECIALLY when no one is watching, you are embarking on one of life’s greatest journeys. Get out there and challenge yourself to keep creating even if no one is there to watch you. Odds are, you have a lot more of an audience than you realize.
I can’t tell you that it will be easy but I can tell you that it is worth it.
