With all of the talk of COVID-19, many of us are practicing social distancing. So, what can we do with the time we’re given?
I understand that given the current state of things, we aren’t able to go out and do the things we normally love doing. But, that shouldn’t stop us from still having fun (and being productive!).
So, I have crafted a list of 10 things to do when you’re stuck at home.
Create a podcast (or catch up on your favorite shows!)
If you’ve ever wanted to start a podcast, now is the time to hit record! Have a friend you want to interview? Have an idea that’s bursting at the seams? Now is YOUR time to shine, my friend!
I know that you have amazing ideas in your heart and your mind, just waiting to be let out. You’ve got all of this amazing content that you’re keeping to yourself. But now is the time to get creative!
Maybe you’re already a podcaster or maybe you don’t want to start a podcast but thoroughly enjoy listening to other shows, now is the time to hit play. For all the household chores and time spent at home, you have the perfect opportunity to listen to your favorite topics. If you need suggestions, HOLLA AT YOUR GIRL.
Seriously! I host The Prodigal Daughter and The Reckless Pursuit. If you need some other suggestions on specific topics, hit me up. I may just help you find your next favorite show;)
*Here’s my current favorite!
Write a book (or finish all the books on your TBR nightstand!)
I feel like most of us all have a similar dream: to write a book. Whether this is a quick little e-book or a series of books, many of us have always wanted to write a book. Though, circumstantially, a lot of us never even write the first draft. Well, friend, you’ve got all the time in the world. Heck, I’m even forcing myself to edit my draft. If I want to publish Moving Mountains at the end of 2020, I better get to writing!
I’m sure if you’re anything like me, you’ve got a long list of books that you’ve always wanted to read. Maybe you have a bookshelf full of books that you’ve always “meant” to read but haven’t had ..the time. Well, there is no time like the present!
And if you don’t have the resources for buying new books or unable to leave your home, I’ve got you covered.;)
Learn a new language
Man, there are so many resources out there. I guess I should rephrase that last sentence. Man, there are so many FREE resources out there! If you’ve always wanted to learn a new language, well, you’re in luck!
Think YouTube, LingoBus, or even DuoLingo (my favorite!) Whether you’ve always wanted to learn French, Spanish, Chinese, or Gaelic, now is your TIME!
Use it wisely.
Practice meditation and breathwork
A lot of us have felt a little uneasy as of late. And I totally get it. There is a lot of stress, fear, and anxiety around the unknown and what’s to come in the near future.
That’s why I wholeheartedly believe that we could all benefit from a little meditation and breathing exercises. Do you have an Apple Watch? Well, you’re in luck! There is a FREE app on the watch. And do you know what it’s called?
haha. I’m serious. And it’s pretty cool, too. You see, it has a flower that blooms and then retracts to help you focus on your breathing. Sure, this may sound “woo-woo” but who cares? If it works, it works. Don’t knock til’ you try it.;)
I’m no yogi master or expert or anything but 30 minutes of yoga hit different. I’m telling you, I’ve struggled with migraines and headaches that won’t go away. I’ve struggled with Chiari Malformation causing pain in my neck and shoulder tension.
And this crap works!
Looking for a new routine to start? I suggest starting here. 👈🏻
Move your body (minimum of 30-minutes, y’all)
This should go without saying. Especially if we are subject to staying at our homes, we should make sure that we are still getting our 30-minutes in.
Lately, Cody and I have made it a point (weather permitting) to go outside and play badminton, volleyball, or even throwing a frisbee with our dog! Whatever it takes. Whether this means you run around your neighborhood to cool off from the workload or you play Just Dance for 30 minutes, it all counts.
Try new recipes
If you’re stuck at home, I hope you’re eating gooood. And if not, maybe take this time as a learning opportunity. What is something that you’ve always wanted to try at home? Want to practice your baking skills? Want to try a new chicken recipe? Honestly, the possibilities are endless!
Meanwhile, I will be at home baking bread because bread is life.
Research how to start a business (especially online, service-based biz)
I bet you weren’t ready for that one! Seriously, though. If you are stuck at home, it might be a good idea to research that business idea you’ve been sitting on for years!
Especially if it’s an online, service-based business. Thought the given circumstances may not be so great, I do see this as an opportunity to grow and learn from one another. Online businesses are flourishing right now as they may be what we rely on for the time given. So, now would be the best time to research how!
*While my brick and mortar business is on hold for the given season, I do have two online businesses that I will be focusing on for the time being! If you’re looking to start a podcast and/or want to create more content without having to worry about the editing side, I’ve got the hookup! Or, if you’re into cool, funky, spiritual tees, I make those too!
Learn a new skill
Honestly, this can be any of the above but I also want to give some other ideas as well. Something that I recently starting learning is how to make candles. I mean, honestly, it’s therapeutic at this point!
Maybe you want to start knitting or crocheting. Or maybe you’re wanting to learn how to sew. There’s this magical place mentioned above called YouTube;)
Catch up on all your favorite movies and shows on your DVR
If we have to be home anyway, we might as well enjoy ourselves!
I hope you enjoyed this list of 10 things to do while you’re stuck at home! If you have any other ideas or suggestions, feel free to reach out! Or, if you want to share the fun, tag me online! I can’t wait to see what you create:)
